I’d like to see a man on that panel suffer through a crippling, vomit-inducing, work-missing, bring you to tears, scared this is never going to end, bout of endometriosis; a health disorder that has no cure short of removing reproductive organs. Or maybe they’d like to have a debilitating ovarian cyst removed instead? Oral contraceptives are regularly prescribed treatments for these disorders, and many women that I know (myself included) have experienced positive results when using birth control as part of our treatment.
I am fully aware that there are health disorders that wreak havoc on the male reproductive system, but I have yet to see a panel of women testify that the dissemination of medicines used to treat said disorders are in violation of their right to religious freedom. Should men be part of this discussion? Of course. Should the church be part of this discussion? Absolutely not. When it comes to matters of health, both men and women should be free to choose their method of treatment and feel comfortable knowing that a healthcare provider will treat them accordingly, without religious beliefs interfering.
Does a woman taking a contraceptive diminish your ability to have a relationship with God? If so, I think you should reevaluate your faith.
